Arun Church is a lively and vibrant church in Littlehampton. We are a group of around 400 people meeting every Sunday, 10.30am at The Littlehampton Academy (BN17 6FE). The rest of the week, we run the Wickbourne Centre which is open to the community for a variety of services.
Our overall vision as a church is to see lives transformed through Jesus and all our activities support that aim. Our mission, how we go about transforming lives, is by helping people to Belong, Believe and Become.
- Belong: Everyone is welcome, whatever your story. Here you will find a family to stand with you in grief and brokenness and in celebration and joy.
- Believe: We worship God, revealed to us through Jesus Christ, and passionately seek to follow his teachings and example in everything we do.
- Become: We expect to see lives transformed one heart at a time, beginning with our own.
We subscribe to the Evangelical Alliance Statement of Faith, available online here.

Our main office is in The Wickbourne Centre in Wick, Littlehampton. This is where lots of our activities take place, and is also home to our PlayCentre Nursery, and Refresh our fairtrade coffee shop with free internet facilities. We also have a PlayCentre Pre-School in Rustington. The Wickbourne Centre is run in partnership with West Sussex County Council and a variety of children’s and family services are based within the building including social workers, family support teams, and health visitors. We organise various community support groups, as well as using the venue for mid-week prayer meetings and teaching sessions.
Here’s a video created for our 40th anniversary in 2012, highlighting some key moments in our history. You can read more detail below.
Arun Community Church was the new name given to Rustington Christian Fellowship, established by David Thatcher and his father-in-law John Smale in 1972 as a church plant from Littlehampton Baptist Church. The first public meeting was on Sunday 1 October in the small hall of Rustington Village Hall.
In March 1978, ACC was officially established as a separate church with John as the Pastor. David took over the senior leadership responsibility in September 1983. After running three congregations for a number of years, in 2001, Arun Community Church moved venue to the then Littlehampton Community School Sports Hall for its Sunday morning family service.
On October 10, 2010 David’s eldest daughter, Becca Jupp assumed the role of leader at ACC, supported by a wider team of leaders.
Throughout our history, we have actively engaged with the local area providing a variety of services and events. Since 1992, the church has run the PlayCentre pre-school nursery at our premises in Rustington.
Also in 1992, the church started a monthly youth event known as Cutting Edge. The event grew to over 1,000 people, with annual concerts on Littlehampton Beach Green which attracted thousands. In 1996, the Cutting Edge band became known as Delirious?.
We are also known for our range of creative activities for children and young people. Among other groups these include our week-long summer Kickstart-the Event playschemes, Launch Pad breakfast club which is currently funded by BBC Children In Need, and TNT – a popular youth club for 11-14 year olds.
