Christmas Day

Admin —  December 20, 2017

This Monday coming is Christmas Day! We will be meeting at The Littlehampton Academy, 10.30 – 11.30am to celebrate the birth of Jesus! All the children are invited to bring a present that they can show to the church.

As part of our service we will be taking a special offering for two overseas partners of Links International, in India:

Samarpan (Delhi) raises up church planters and develops pioneering indigenous churches in some of the most difficult and hard to reach areas of India. Through the training they have carried out, they have been directly instrumental in the start up of over 3,000 churches across the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Utrah Kandh.

New Life Home (Shillong) run by Pastor Sanga Miller in Shillong, North East India works impacting the indigenous villages and cities of the North East, raising up leaders, developing church and working into impoverished communities.

The offering will be going specifically towards their work with children, to help them with their Christmas outreaches and programs and to ensure that children and their families, who otherwise would not have a Christmas, will be blessed throughout this festive season.

Please give generously!

Start With Prayer

Admin —  December 20, 2017

In the Bible, so many of the great and exciting stories that we love start with prayer! We believe this is no different for us today.

As we start a New Year and a new adventure we want more than anything to hear the voice of our Father saying, ‘This is the way… walk in it.’ He makes the impossible, possible and the ordinary, extraordinary.

Let’s commit this coming year to God and believe it will be our best yet!

Our prayer week is Sunday 7th – Saturday 13th January at the following times and locations:

Sunday 7th January, 6 – 7.30pm: Evening Service, prayer & worship at The Littlehampton Academy.

Tuesday 9th Janaury, 7 – 8am: Prayer at the Wickbourne Centre, with a focus on the work of the church and Wickbourne.

Wednesday 10th January, 7 – 8.30pm: Prayer for healing. Venue to be confirmed.

Thursday 11th January, 7 – 8am: Prayer in Littlehampton town centre, meeting at the Clock Tower. This will be a time to pray over the town and prayer walk the area.

Saturday 13th January, 10am -12 midday: Prayer, worship and prophetic words at the Wickbourne Centre. Come prepared to share what God’s been highlighting and pray into all He is going to do.

There will also be a daily prayer devotional each day, through Facebook and the Arun Church website, to inspire you throughout your prayer time.

Growth Tracks

Admin —  December 20, 2017

God has an incredible purpose for your life and the Growth Track courses are designed to help you connect with that purpose! We encourage everyone to go on each of these courses, starting with Alpha (if you’ve never been before).

Even mature Christians will find new revelation and deeper understanding by working through the Growth Track.

The first three courses begin on Tuesday 16th January at the Wickbourne Centre, 7pm for coffee & dessert, then each course starting at 7.30pm. To book a place click on the relevant course below.

  • Alpha: Explore life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. The course runs for 10 weeks looking at topics such as ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘Why and how do I pray?’
  • Intro to Arun: Find out more about the church including our vision, values and history. This is a great follow on from Alpha and runs for 5 weeks.
  • Freedom in Christ: A 10 week course, helping you become a fruitful disciple of Jesus by establishing your identity in Him, giving you the tools to break and stay free from everything that holds you back.

Bible in One Year

Admin —  December 20, 2017

Next year we thought it would be good to read the Bible in a year together. As well as simply reading your Bible in a year, you could listen on a CD or get an app for your phone. If you are up for this, here are some suggestions for Christmas presents this year:

Audio Bible in One Year with David Suchet

Alpha Bible in One Year

Soul Survivor Bible in One Year

Or check out the Bible in One Year website which contains an app with commentary by Nicky & Pippa Gumbel.

Admin —  December 20, 2017

Thank you to everyone who provided a Christmas hamper this year! These were all given out this week to 90 local families and individuals! The positive impact of this may not always be something you will see the result of, but please know your generosity and time will have made an incredible difference to many people across our community this Christmas.

Carol Boreham of the CAP Debt Centre writes: On behalf of our extremely grateful clients we’d like to sat a massive Thank You to all those who gave us hampers. People were overwhelmed and some in tears. If you’d like to be more involved with our CAP Debt Centre please contact me on 07450 678415.

Sparks is our weekly parents & toddlers group that’s been meeting in people’s homes over the years. But this January we’re excited to announce Sparks is moving to the Wickbourne Centre, providing a great opportunity for more parents & toddlers to attend. Sparks is an ideal environment to invite friends to, meet other parents and support each other in the parenthood job!

New Sparks starts Thursday 18th January, 10 – 11.30am. More info to follow in the New Year.

Newsletter Changes

Admin —  December 20, 2017

The weekly email newsletter has remained largely unchanged over the last four years. Whilst it provides a lot of information each Friday, many people have commented that they do not read it, or often miss key information. Therefore from January 2018, the newsletter will be changing.

We deliberately want to inspire you in your walk with God during the week, so instead of going out on Friday you will now receive the email on a Monday morning.

Rather than simply containing news about upcoming events, the email will start with a Thought For The Week from Becca Jupp (and others) and the podcast of the talk from Sunday so you can listen during your commute, school run or wherever! There will also be information about some of the more important pieces of news to keep you informed.

We believe this new format will be much more accessible and useful to everyone, so look out for the first one on New Year’s Day.

Please note that each news item will no longer be posted onto our website, but you can always find up-to-date information on the calendar page of the website.

We will continue to make paper copies available on a Sunday morning, but only for those who do not have a device to access email regularly – please contact the office if you do not have email access and would like a paper copy on Sundays.

Arun Church Football Team

Admin —  December 20, 2017

Manager Jamie Mellor has written a match report of Arun Church FC’s recent league game on Saturday 16th December:

Another Saturday and another lovely setting for a football game. Cold and crisp, the pitch was set across a pretty severe slope. We wanted to be playing uphill first half and surrendered the kick off to allow this.

Lodsworth belied their lowly league position and showed danger on the break, almost breaking through on a couple of occasions. But we began to ease ourselves into the game and dictate the style of play.

Toby Neal characteristically goes in for a tough challenge and takes a couple of studs to the knee. OUCH. Blood begins pouring and a hobbling Toby is replaced by the dependable Joe Kennedy. Joe disrupts Lodsworth’s rhythm well with a number of blocks and tackles.

And then – with half time drawing close – Arun strike.

With neat play and an interchange on the left saw Mikey Vickery-Brown with his back to goal, and Rob Rixon well-placed to receive it. The ball is laid off and Rob drops his shoulder, allowing himself space for a shot. It’s a great one, spinning into the bottom right hand corner beyond the keeper. 1-0.

Lodsworth were no doubt aware their best chance of getting something from the game relied on them scoring whilst shooting downhill. Sam Archer began to judge the slope very well and swept up a number of Lodsworth’s punts, nullifying their threat.

In the second half Arun’s defence grew into the game admirably, Ben Ansell a towering vocal presence at the back, Steven Hart putting in a solid, high-energy shift on the left and James Rixon on the right.

Ben Young began to enjoy more freedom, twisting and turning through Lodsworth’s defence, and tired Lodsworth legs made mistakes. The captain spied a loose ball in penalty box and made a burst for the ball. He was caught and taken down. Penalty.

Mikey fired a firm penalty high into the net. 2-0.

Dan Ambrose grew in confidence throughout the game and was pulling strings in the final 30 minutes in a tenacious box-to-box display – crunching into tackles and orchestrating moves around him.

He played the ball inside and spotted space out on the right. Dan made the move, called for the pass and received it, playing the ball across the box where it caused havoc for tired Lodsworth legs.

Eventually it fell to Mikey Vickery-Brown, whose shot found its way to the back of the net via the post and a defender. At time of writing the Dubious Goals Panel are investigating who the goal is to be given to. 3-0.

The game ended without any further incident and the Church Boys could be very satisfied with a job well done.

MotM: Tom Langlois for a near faultless performance in central defence.

Arun take a break until 6th January. Thanks so much to everyone who has helped make our first season an incredibly enjoyable one so far. We sit 4th in a league of 9, with a smallish but genuine chance of promotion still in reach.

This Sunday – Christmas Special

Admin —  December 14, 2017

This Sunday 17th December is our Christmas Special at TLA, 6 – 7.15pm.

Please note there will be no morning meeting this week.

Everyone is warmly invited to come and join us for an evening of carols and creativity, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus and all that means for us. Bring family and friends too! Festive refreshments will follow the service.

Calling all festive bakers! Would you be happy to make or buy mince pies (or similar festive fare)? If so please bring them along before 6pm and leave them in the canteen area with Sally Gray & team.

Car Parking: As we’re expecting more visitors than normal, please consider parking in the Hill Road car park to allow plenty of spaces for guests in the Fitzalan Road car park. Thank you.

The Chapel will be available for parents with babies and toddlers this week.

Please be aware that each Sunday, as we meet in a public building, Arun Community Church cannot accept responsibility for your children’s safety during, before or after the meeting apart from during supervised activities. Pack down can also be particularly hazardous with the removal of heavy equipment. Please do not allow your children up onto the balcony level in the Atrium as this is out of bounds. Thank you.
