Vision Day

Admin —  September 15, 2017

Our ongoing vision as a church is to see lives transformed through Jesus, yet each year we also identify a focus for our annual Vision Day. This year Vision Day is on Sunday 1st October which will be a time of celebration and a chance to give.

We will also be eating together after the meeting with a selection of soups and roll, doughnuts and fruit. There is no charge, but for catering purposes, if you would like to eat please book your place here (press ‘Add Additional Ticket’ for each extra person) or leave your name on Info Point on Sunday.

At last year’s Vision Day we looked to invest in the two areas of Mission (locally and overseas) and Worship. We raised a remarkable £40,000 that was used to support the Littlehampton CAP Debt Centre, create our Community Development Lead role, partner with Links International to support churches in Uganda, Colombia, Lebanon and India, record new worship songs, and recruit an Assistant Worship Leader!

This year we believe God is calling us to GROW! Specifically, we want to see:

  • Spiritual Growth – developing deeper relationships with God,
  • Numerical Growth – more people coming to know Jesus and joining the church
  • Financial Growth – increasing our income to fund the ongoing activity of the church

Over the weeks leading up to Vision Day, we have been highlighting various activities of the church on Sunday mornings. To continue this work and fuel new growth across the church, we are looking to raise £50,000.

Many of you will know we have recently been using some of our financial reserves, so part of this target will go towards sustaining and improving our existing work (including Sunday meetings, CAP Debt Centre, pastoral care, etc). In addition we also plan to increase our visible outreach to the community, take on an intern, and continue to grow all of our activities – each of which requires investment.

Please think and pray about how you can make a contribution to the church’s Growth. Firstly, invite people to church! We would also encourage you to step out in faith when praying about what to give financially. You may want to set something aside each week, start tithing regularly or even increase your tithe. If you have children, talk with them about Vision Day and encourage them to give with their pocket money or be creative with cake sales or other initiatives.

There are many ways to give. The easiest way to donate is online at, selecting Vision Day 2017. You can also do a bank transfer or use cash and cheques. Thank you for your generosity.

We are looking forward to the stories of faith on 1st October, and to hear more about what God is doing in and around this community.

As a Core Team we have asked Nat Gillett to join as a guest until Christmas. Nat has previously been involved in church leadership in his previous church. He has an amazing heart for people, prayer and evangelism.
Becca Jupp, Jon Jolly, Joe Gisbey, Kat Archer

Our condolences to Jo & Martin Watson and family as Jo’s grandad, Arthur Sargent, died this week. Arthur and his wife Gwen played active roles in the early days of Arun Church. He was an Elder on the leadership team, with David Thatcher and John Smale, in the late seventies and early eighties when we were called Rustington Christian Fellowship.

Laurie Mellor has written a match report of Arun Church FC’s first league game in WSFL Division 5 South:

Saturday 9th September

Arun Church FC’s first ever league game resulted in a convincing win, despite trailing one nil down earlier on.

The first 30 minutes, played at a slowish pace, saw both sides sizing each other up. We created chances, with goal-scorer Ben Young ever-present as an attacking midfield force.

There was a good mazy run and shot from Joel Tucker, and this showed Arun the potentially weak middle of the opposition. Some of the finishing was a tad naïve, but this will improve as the season progresses. Arun took a little while to settle on the ball, with some passes being rushed, and possession given away without that much pressure.

After a sluggish first 10 minutes that saw them concede a scrappy own goal, Arun had the lion’s share of possession in the second half, with chances coming thick and fast. Goalie Joel Passmore made some very good saves and Ricardo Agrela scored two, his second the result of a superb move down the left. The Agrela brothers (Ricardo and Jose) had an attacking, swashbuckling style and their relentless energy down the left flank caused the opposition a lot of trouble towards the end of the match!

Most of the players lasted the 90 minutes and overall work rate was good, although one or two need to be busier and not wait for the ball to come to them! Fitness is improving little by little, and whilst Arun saw a couple of players succumb to cramp towards the end, the squad was utilised to good effect. The difference in squad size began to tell and Mikey Vickery-Brown completed the rout towards the end with a decent finish from an angle.

This was a fantastic result in our first ever competitive match, very promising for the long season ahead. You can follow the team’s league progress by googling West Sussex Football League Division 5 South.
