The Bible talks a lot about “treasure”.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:21
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” – Matthew 13:44
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” – 2 Corinthians 4:7
“In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” – 1 Timothy 6:19
For many of us prayer comes alive when we are both out in open spaces and also taking action, so the idea of this prayer journey is to stimulate our senses and inspire us into action. This is also a great way to pray together as a family or with a group of friends.
There are four point to stop on this journey with specific focus and prayer pointers for each area. You are free to spend as much time in each area as you like but we would encourage you to really ask God to speak to you and give you guidance. Also look out for the nuggets of treasure God may want to reveal to you and people he may want to use you to reach out to.
Each area corresponds with our theme for this year which is ‘Under Construction: God is Building Here’
If you use google maps you can access the information for each area and the route. There will also be some print outs of the route on Info Point this Sunday.
Point 1: Preparing the land
When we view the plots that will one day be homes we can consider the immense amount of work that goes into what is essentially unseen. Both the tearing down of what was, plowing up of fallow ground and digging for foundations. What does God need to plow up in our lives and land this year?
Psalm 139:23-24 (MSG)
Investigate my life, O God,
find out everything about me;
Cross-examine and test me,
get a clear picture of what I’m about;
See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong— then guide me on the road to eternal life.
Here’s another Message from God
to the people of Judah and Jerusalem:
“Plow your unplowed fields,
but then don’t plant weeds in the soil!
Yes, circumcise your lives for God’s sake.
Plow your unplowed hearts,
all you people of Judah and Jerusalem.
Point 2: Foundations
Reflect here on the hidden work that God has to do as he digs deep into our hearts. What are the different types of material God uses to get our lives prepared for His plans and purposes? Are there spiritual disciplines God wants to renew or reinstate in our lives during 2017?
1 Corinthians 3:11
For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.
“O afflicted one, storm-tossed, and not comforted, Behold, I will set your stones in antimony, And your foundations I will lay in sapphires.
Point 3: Structure
Prayer walk around the new estate paying particular notice to the new shells of houses not yet completed. Think about the different specific pieces of work needed to be done and the role of different workers with different skill sets to get that work done. Who has God placed in your life to help build you up? Who do you need to be building up?
By wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established;
Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain.
For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.
Point 4: Aesthetics
Walk around the Castle Walls and take in the majesty of the finished product. If the flag is raised consider that the importance of the building is based on the one who resides within. What areas have become run down needing renewal? Who or what is filling your life right now?
And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
And you shall take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given the land to you to possess it.
Lift up your heads, O gates, And be lifted up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle.
