68 “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because he has come to his people and redeemed them.
69 He has raised up a horn[a] of salvation for us
in the house of his servant David
70 (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),
71 salvation from our enemies
and from the hand of all who hate us—
Zechariah had waited many years for the promised Messiah and grew weary in waiting, to the point that when the angel came to visit he was caught by surprise. Zechariah failed to understand that from God’s perspective, each day that passed brought the promise that much nearer!
Abraham received the promise of a son and grew impatient, he also failed to understand that each day brought him nearer to the fulfilment of that promise. If you have received a promise from the Lord which is yet unfulfilled think on this today, you are one day nearer to it being fulfilled so rejoice and give thanks that “the issue that you face is not the issue, the real issue is – what did God say?” and by faith declare it.
Dear Lord help us to see things from your perspective, for you are a faithful God and your plan for us is a good plan, and whilst waiting for the fulfilment of your promise I choose to rejoice and be glad for you are “Emmanuel – God with us”.
