December 5th – A Hidden Promise

Luke 2:39-45

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

Have you ever had news too exciting to keep to yourself? Mary was bursting to tell her news, but she couldn’t tell just anyone. She got ready and hurried to her cousin Elizabeth’s house. Mary knew Elizabeth would offer compassion and understanding, she knew Elizabeth would celebrate with her and not condemn her. When she arrived she didn’t even need to tell Elizabeth her news. The promise that Elizabeth was carrying in her womb leaped for joy at the promise Mary carried in her womb and Elizabeth was ‘filled with the Holy Spirit and sang out exuberantly’ (Luke 1:41,42 MSG).

When we come together with those God has aligned us with there is something inside us that leaps for joy when we share the promises that God has given to us.  We can rejoice and stand together.  Today who can you stand with and declare God’s blessing over? Sometimes the promises God gives to us are hidden, are there any hidden promises that you hold in your heart? Declare God’s blessing over those things and believe today that the Lord will fulfill His promises to you.
