THE NEXT GENERATION
June 23rd, 2009
Even when I am old and grey, do not forsake me O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come. Psalm 71:19.
We were reminded of these words last week, and I was challenged to make sure that I pass on to my children and grandchildren the many amazing stories of God at work in my life and in the life of the church here. Sometimes the immediate pressures can cause us to lose sight of the amazing works of God among us.
As parents bring their children to be dedicated this morning, there is a responsibility upon them to tell their children of the wonderful things they have seen God do in their lives.
Parents, we are to impress God’s commandments upon our children, to talk about them from the time we get up to the time we go to bed. God’s ways, the love of our Heavenly Father and the power of the Holy Spirit should be so ingrained in us and in our children.
Let our children hear the stories of lives changed. Tell them of your mission trips abroad. Tell them about Cutting Edge, events on Beach Green, the amazing provision of The Wickbourne Centre. Tell them about the answers to prayer that you have had, as well as the times of struggle, pain and confusion. Tell them of miracles you have seen, of your experiences of the Holy Spirit. Tell them of the times when you have clearly heard the direction of God, when you have acted in faith, when God has used you in a special way. Soak them in Bible stories. Tell them about great people of faith through history, stories of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in recent years.
Do you keep any record of things? Maybe you need to sit down and remember and write, and declare God’s power to the next generation. David

Back in May I took part at the Willow Promiseland Congress in Nuremberg. One of the speakers was Mark Holmen and he told us how important is the faith at home. Not to say: Okay, the church does that job, this is why we have a church…No, we as parents and grandparents or even as relatives have to tell our children about Jesus in a way children do understand it and in love and with passion.
May the Lord enable us to do so!
