SALVATION
January 20th, 2009
Brazilian footballer Kaka hit the headlines this week as being the world’s first £100 million player. This is the sum Manchester City is offering him to move from AC Milan.
After winning the European Champions League final last year, he took his jersey off to reveal a T shirt that read ‘I Belong to Jesus’.
26-year-old Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, better known as Kaka, became a ‘devout Christian’ when he was 12-years-old. He suffered a career-threatening and possible paralysis-inducing spinal fracture as a result of a swimming pool accident when he was 18. He made a remarkable full recovery which he attributes to God. He is a member of ‘Athletes for Christ’, and married his childhood sweetheart Caroline three years ago.
Don’t be impressed by superstars just because they express a faith in God. Even demons do that –and shudder! It is faith in Jesus as the Son of God and his death and resurrection that brings salvation. Paul declares to the Jewish rulers in Acts 4 referring to Jesus Christ that ‘salvation is found in no-one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved’.
For God loved the world so much that he sent his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
By saying this, it is not my heart or desire to appear arrogant, condemning or non PC. It is actually a statement of love, and an appeal to take up such a loving and generous offer of forgiveness, acceptance and salvation.
