Historic Moment
September 15th, 2009
We are all aware that in the ordinary busyness of life there come moments which are special. As individuals these will be the day we married, the births of our children, our baptism or some other specific events. There are historic global moments; the day man first set foot on the moon, Princess Diana’s funeral, or 9/11.
One such historic moment for us as a church, which I feel could go unnoticed, was last Sunday morning when the principle of the new Littlehampton Academy, Steve Jewell, and the Chaplain, Paul Sanderson, stood before us on the stage and made certain declarations about the Academy and it’s future.
He explained that the Academy was a Christian Foundation, that the pupils would be encouraged to explore spiritual values and beliefs. A Chapel had been established, and he outlined the programme for forthcoming assemblies, aiming to introduce Communion for those who would like to participate. He said further that he welcomed our involvement, and would like to see us as a Church meeting in the new Academy building planned for a couple of years time.
Since we first met as a Church, we have prayed for the schools in our area, but we have especially prayed for Littlehampton School as the place where we have met for over 25 years.
Joshua was promised, ‘I will give you every place where you set your foot’. Crossing the Jordan and entering the Promised Land was an historic moment to be commemorated and remembered, but there were many battles to be fought, faith to be pursued and victories to be gained. Let us continue to pray for Steve and the Academy, and let us be Joshuas, stepping out to take new territory.
Last Sunday was an historic moment, a moment to relate to future generations.
