Happy New Year
January 6th, 2009
A very happy New Year to everyone. We all wonder what the coming months will bring, aware that the future is uncertain with the world financial crisis, the face of our High Streets likely to change significantly and conflicts around the globe. How will this affect our daily lives and the lives of those around us, our jobs and standard of living?
As God’s people, we must be ready for the Lord’s return at any time, but in the meantime, there is work to be done, a commission for us to fulfil. Speaking last Sunday from Jeremiah 17:5-10, Grubby – Jack Groblewski - said that our faith and motivations, individually and corporately would be tested this year.
Our commission remains to be good news and bring the good news of the love of Jesus Christ to our community and beyond. Building on what God has already done through us as a group, the challenges and opportunities are there for us. Using the gifts, abilities and experience that God has given each of us, we need to work together to maintain and develop all we are doing. Let us help each other to know the part we should be playing, whether it be in Alpha groups, Summer playschemes, special events, the Big Church Day Out, Wickbourne involvement, children’s and young people’s groups, overseas teams or the many other opportunities of ministry which exist.
An exciting development will be the opening of the Littlehampton Academy on 1 September. We look forward to seeing if and how we can be part of this project.
Hope was born on Christmas Day; congratulations to Jon and Kirsty. How apt, for as we face lots of uncertainty and apprehension, in Jesus Christ we have a hope and a certainty, which are tidings of comfort and joy.
May God give you a new start and a new hope as we enter 2009.
