The X-mas Factor
December 16th, 2008
So will it be Alexandra, JLS, or Eoghan? Who has got that X –Factor, that unknown, unique, special quality that puts them ahead of the rest? You will know by the time you read this.
In recent conversation with a lady in her late twenties, she confessed to never really understanding what Christmas and Easter were about at all. Throughout her school life she had not been able to make the connection between a baby born in a stable, Father Christmas, Easter Bunnies, Christians and Jesus.
So what is so special about Jesus? Well basically that he was God’s unique son who came to this earth as a baby 2000 years ago, to identify with us, show us what God is like and how he wants us to live, and then ultimately to be our saviour, to suffer and die in our place, taking our punishment. He amazingly rose back to life again, conquering death itself. All this enables us to enjoy a restored relationship with God, for ever.
Jesus becomes the X-Factor. Understanding the purpose of his mission revolutionises Christmas and means we can enjoy a new peace, a new joy and a new hope, the three topics we are thinking about as we approach Christmas.
X is also a mark of love, a vote of confidence. It may sound a bit corny, but Jesus is the X-Factor, and not just for others but for you too.
